Masjid Freehaven is an Islamic community in Lawnside, NJ, founded by a group of 12 Muslim families who came together to celebrate their Iftars and Eids. Over the years, the community grew and eventually found a location to establish Masjid Freehaven, which was officially opened in 1999. The mission of Masjid Freehaven is to present, teach, and practice Al-Islam in a clear and balanced way, working for the good of humanity through collaboration and mutual respect.
Al-Islam, meaning submission to the Will of God, is the complete way of life reflected in the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. The community of Masjid Freehaven follows the five pillars of Islam, which include belief in one God, prayer five times a day, fasting during Ramadan, charity-giving, and pilgrimage to Mecca. With a commitment to cultivating human excellence and good character, Masjid Freehaven aims to establish a balanced community life based on the eternal wisdom of the Holy Qur'an and the example set by Prophet Muhammad.
