Summit Fire Department
Established in 1879, the Summit Police Department protects lives and properties of citizens and visitors, preserves peace and prevents crime and disorder and guards personal liberties. It undertakes various criminal cases and works with other state, local and federal agencies to ensure the safety of exchange of information between law enforcement officers and the public. The Summit Police Department supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The department has a juvenile bureau that helps parents with crisis children and incorrigible delinquents to prevent juvenile crime. Located in Summit, N.J., the Summit Police Department operates a youth academy that provides training programs related to laws, firearms instruction, defensive tactics, first aid, patrol procedures and investigations.
