The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey (HFNJ) is a non-profit organization that awards grants to improve health care in the greater Newark, N.J., area. Created in 1996 with proceeds from the sale of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, the foundation is dedicated "to the health and wellness of the vulnerable members" of the community.
HFNJ's initiatives include an endowment at New Jersey Medical School to promote compassion, cultural sensitivity and humanistic practices in future physicians. The foundation is also supporting a program to improve access to mental health programs among young children in the Newark area.
