The rescue squad is a volunteer organization responsible for vehicular rescue, hazardous materials emergency response, water rescue, confined space rescue, and industrial and technical rescue in Fair Lawn, as well as other municipalities when necessary. On a weekly basis, the rescue squad conducts practical drills at sites throughout the borough. In 1994, the squad moved into its current building behind Fair Lawn High School. Eric Van Kruiningen is the squad's chief. The organization also sponsors a youth squad of up to 10 members ages 15-18 who go on to perform almost every task the regular squad does. Applications for the youth squad are available from 7-7:30 p.m. every Tuesday.
