Just before the 1778 Battle of Monmouth, the British general Henry Clinton operated his headquarters at Covenhoven, a Georgian home built for William and Elizabeth Covenhoven in 1752-3. A good representation of a successful farmer's lifestyle during the American Revolution, Covenhoven House has been furnished according to a 1790 inventory of William Covenhoven's estate. This historic site is maintained by Monmouth County Historial Association. Admission is free.
