This is the New Jersey headquarters of an after-school mentorship program that is offered in three Newark Public Schools: Dr. Martin Luther King Elementary, Ivy Hill School and First Avenue Elementary. Founded in Boston, Citizen Schools operates in several states across the country, working to "close the achievement gap." Its programs rely on the talent and dedication of "Citizen Teachers" - adult volunteers who engage children in enriching activities in the arts, sciences, physical education and business.
