The Berkeley Heights Fire Department responds to between 500 and 600 calls per year. The department is headed by Chief Anthony Padovano and includes three battalion chiefs, two captains, two lieutenants and 30 firefighters, plus five junior firefighters.

The department's gear includes Rescue 1, a fire rescue truck; Squad 1, with a 2,000 gallon per minute pumper; Tower 1, with a 100-foot ladder truck that includes a 1,500 gallon per minute pump; Engine 2, with a 1,500 gallon per minute pumper; and Engine 3, the department's brush truck, with a 1,500 gallon pump; Engine 4, a brand new truck with a 2,000 gallon per minute pump; and a tactical support truck to carry gear.
