Bayville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 serves the Berkeley Shores, Toms River Shores, Holly Park, Glen Cove, Cedar Beach and Pinewald sections of Berkeley Township. It was established in 1946 and has grown from a small group of volunteers who met in the Route 9 home of Hilbert and Mildred Potter to a department with more than 50 members. It currently has two pumpers, a tower ladder, a rescue pumper, a rescue utility, two brush trucks, two command units and a rescue boat and averages between 450 and 500 runs each year.
