In 1932, a camp was purchased on Mascoma Lake by Joseph and Angelina DePalo. Their daughter, Gloria, began dating Bill Beattie in high school. While dating they often visited Doc's, (now the Baited Hook). In1950, they married and life moved them away, but Mascoma Lake remained in their hearts. In 1986, Patty and Chris Carroll opened The Baited Hook, serving up seafood, burgers, and views of Mascoma Lake. 4 generations of Beatties learned to swim, water-ski and barefoot on Mascoma Lake. As The Baited Hook began to be open fewer hours, the Beattie family began dreaming about the possibility of owning it. They missed sharing a meal with family there, running down for an ice cream before a campfire, and feeling at home when they entered
