The Maine State Police, established in 1925, is the state's largest police agency with an authorized full-time staff of more than 340 sworn personnel, including troopers and colonels. It maintains various specialized units, such as tactical, underwater recovery, crisis negotiation and incident management. The Maine State Police also has an Evidence Response Team (ERT) that examines major scenes to identify and establish the interrelationships of physical evidence involved in the scene.
