The Portsmouth Country Club was originally created in 1901 when a group of Portsmouth men wanted to have a place of their own to play golf. In the 1950s the United States Government seized the land to build a bomber base and the club was forced to move to the nearby municipality of Greenland. Renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones was hired to lay out the new 18 hole Portsmouth Country Club course. It was built in 1956 and opened for play in July 1957. The original clubhouse was replaced in 1998. It hosts a variety of tournaments and is available for golf outings. The club also has a lounge and restaurant, which features a wide range of menu items that include hamburger, fish and chips, pizza, steak, salmon, ribs and wraps. Portsmouth Country Club is located in Greenland, N.H.
