Seabrook Station is a nuclear power plant that is operated by Florida Power & Light Company. It began operations in 1990 and generates more than 1,000 watts of electricity. It utilizes pressurized water reactors for electricity generation and serves the power supply needs of over 900,000 homes. Seabrook Station has received an ISO 14001-certification and has professional and trained plant operators. The plant also supports the New Hampshire Estuary Project, an organization working to improve the water quality in the Hampton-Seabrook estuary. Additionally, Seabrook Station has opened a science and nature center that organizes educational exhibits for students and visitors focusing on nuclear energy and ecosystem. FPL Energy has acquired more than 85 percent ownership of the Seabrook Station.
