History
Still reeling from the impact of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, on October 29, 1942, the Reno Community and War Chest (now known as United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra) was officially developed and established. The organization was formed to assist the United States of America's efforts, as well as families on the home front, affected as a result of able-bodied Reno men that were deployed and powerless to support their families and homes. Today, United Way believes the foundation that nurtures and supports healthy lives is made up of three, interconnected 'building blocks' -- education, financial stability and health. United Way is ideally suited to create positive, lasting change by addressing all three areas as one -- through proper expertise, capacity and relationships. Join us! Bring your passion, knowledge and resources to get things done all across our community.
