The Taxicab Authority is an agency that is responsible for ensuring the safety of passengers travelling in cabs. The agency is administered by the State of Nevada Department of Business and Industry. The Taxicab Authority oversees the enforcement and compliance of standards by cab drivers and agencies. It is charged with the responsibility of regulating the taxicab industry in any Nevada county with a population of 400,000 and above. The agency regulates more than 9,500 drivers and over 3,000 vehicles in Clark County in Nevada. The Taxicab Authority additionally determines the number of cabs authorized per company and fares to be charged by them.
