History
Originally named the Las Vegas Stars ('83-'00), the 51s have been playing baseball at Cashman Field for over 30 years. As member of the Pacific Coast League the team has been playing Triple-A Baseball since its inception. The team has been affiliated with the San Diego Padres ('83-'00), Los Angeles Dodgers ('01-'08), Toronto Blue Jays ('09-'12) and New York Mets ('13-Current). Las Vegas has won the Pacific Coast League title in 1986 & 1988. It was in 2001 that the name of the team changed. Capitalizing on the mystique of the United States Air Force secret base north of Las Vegas, Area 51 where it was rumored that crashed UFOs and aliens were kept. The team adopted an alien them complete with a 7-foot mascot, Cosmo, and took the name 51s.
