Chermac Builders
In 1966, Mac and Chere McGhie left Utah and moved to Las Vegas hoping for a better life. They started their work life in Las Vegas by working for a general contractor rehabbing abandoned homes for mortgage companies. Times were tough back then, and many people had left their homes during the recession of the mid 1960's. Less than one year after moving to Las Vegas, they combined their names and founded Chermac Builders with State Contractor License 9401. While continuing to do rehab work, the company built several small tracks of homes from 1969 through 1978. In 1971, the company diversified again, and moved into the insurance restoration segment of the industry, working for nearly every major insurance company. We were on the preferred contractors list of State Farm, Farmers Insurance Group, California State Autombile Association ( AAA ), and numerous others. We worked with nearly every independent adjustment firm doing business in Las Vegas, and established an excellent reputation. In addition to repairing homes damaged by fire, wind, water, and vehicles, we also built numerous custom homes, and completed numerous remodels. In 1989, Mac transferred the day to day operations of the company to his youngest son, Mark. Mac past away in 1991 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Soon after Mac's death, Mark shifted the company's focus from insurance restoration to residential remodeling. It was during this period of time that Jeff Weikel, a former general contractor in New Jersey joined the company. Jeff was a home builder and remodeling contractor in New Jersey for over 10 years, and quickly became an integral part of the company. While the company still occasionally does insurance work, the primary focus has been residential remodeling with an emphasis on Accessibility Remodeling for people with disabilities. We currently work with numerous agencies for the State of Nevada, the United States Veteran's Administration, and numerous other organizations who assist people in adapting their homes to accommodate their physical challenges. We also work with aging Baby Boomers in adapting their homes so they can safely stay in their homes as an alternative to moving into an assisted care facility.
