The Society of American Indian Dentists (SAID) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the unique needs of Indigenous dentists and increasing the number of Indigenous dentists in the United States. Founded in 1990 by Dr. George Blue Spruce, Jr., the first American Indian dentist in the United States, SAID promotes dental health in American Indian communities, encourages AI AN youth to pursue careers in dentistry, and provides role-model leadership and support for AI AN dentists. SAID coordinates an annual conference that offers opportunities for networking, continuing education, and engagement in the diverse cultural traditions of sovereign tribal nations. The organization also provides DAT prep awards and travel stipends to support AI AN dental students in their journey to become dentists, and offers a formal mentorship program to enhance and support the dental journey of its students.
