History
The Archway was originally conceived by Frank Morrison, the 31st Governor of Nebraska. It was his dream to create an enduring monument to the adventurers who followed the path that would become known as the Great Platte River Road through Nebraska and helped to build America. From the Oregon Trail through today, the Archway tells the story of the pioneers, innovators and adventurers who set out on a journey with no guarantee of success. Individuals of vision and courage followed the Great Platte River Road westward throughout our history. They found ways to work together to turn their dreams into reality. In the process, they contributed to an enterprise that was much greater than themselves. By telling their evocative story, the Archway seeks to honor the pioneers of the past and to inspire the adventurers of today.
