Cooper Nuclear Station, also known as CNS, offers a range of electrical services. Founded in 1974, the station operates one of the largest single-unit electrical generators in Nebraska. It generates more than 750 megawatts of electricity. The station provides a radiation monitoring program that measures radiation levels in the samples of air, soil, vegetation, milk, and river and well water. It manages a staff of reactor operators who are licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Cooper Nuclear Station is owned and operated by the Nebraska Public Power District. Established in 1970, the Nebraska Public Power District serves the residents of over 90 counties in Nebraska.
