The Montana Department of Labor and Industry promotes the well-being of workers, employers and citizens, as well as upholds their rights and responsibilities. It provides services to the communities and businesses of Montana. The department operates through business standards, centralized services, employment relations, labor market information and unemployment insurance divisions. It enforces the federal and state labor standards law and contractor registration, as well as offers adjudicative services related to labor and benefit claims disputes, workers' compensation and professional regulations. The department additionally oversees and regulates the Montana Workers' Compensation system and establishes building industry codes and licenses. It conducts research and collects employment statistics that enables strategic planning. The department also investigates complaints in cases related to discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, education, insurance, government services, and financial and credit transactions. It offers technical assistance and educational services to employers, housing providers and individuals to clarify the state and federal discrimination law.
