The governments of the city of Butte and Silver Bow County combined in 1977, to form Butte-Silver Bow Local Government, a consolidated city and county government located in southwest Montana that works to improve and maintain governmental operations, and conditions within the boundaries of Silver Bow County. The government is lead by the chief executive, and a 12-member council of commissioners. Its community development program preserves and rehabilitates the city s infrastructure, such as commercial stock and businesses. It is responsible for addressing pressing community needs through preparation and administration of grant applications on behalf on the city and county. The government s developmental disabilities council provides supported living service and programs to persons with disabilities. Butte-Silver Bow Local Government also operates district court, fire and health departments, public libraries, a parking commission, and public administration, weed control and youth justice departments. Butte-Silver Bow Local Government is headquartered in Butte, Mont.
