William Chrisman High School, founded in 1888, is a public school located in Independence, Mo. The high school serves students in grades nine through 12 and has an enrollment of more than 1,500 students. Formerly known as Independence High School, it offers classes in English, science, math, communication arts, social studies, business, French, German, language arts, marketing, Spanish, technology and journalism. The school s colors are blue and gold and its mascot is the bears. The high school also provides various extracurricular activities, such as debate and forensics, music, photography, theater, and chess and writing clubs. It has athletic teams in several sports, including golf, tennis, softball, football, soccer, swimming, volleyball, basketball and wrestling. William Chrisman High School is a part of the Independence 30 School District.
