The Water Utility division of the Board of Municipal Utilities maintains more than 10 wells and treatment plants. The division also features several ground-level and elevated storage tanks. The Water Utility division has over 130 miles of water mains. The division also provides backflow testing and prevention services for nearly 8,500 customers. Established in 1931, the Board of Municipal Utilities also supplies power for more than 9,000 customers and manages over 130 miles of electric lines. The board also maintains a coal-fired generating station and several substations. The Board of Municipal Utilities offers online bill payment services, as well as manages sanitary sewer systems.
