What made me decide to become a cardiologist was a very personal story with my mom. When I was in medical school my mom got ill and she got heart disease. She had a heart attack, but unfortunately it was misdiagnosed and subsequently had some complications. After further investigation we realized that they had missed a heart attack. That had a major impact on me. I decided there was a need for more education on the heart and detecting heart disease in women. That motivated me to become a cardiologist. I now specifically have the passion of helping women detect heart disease at earlier stages.
