The principal of Nathaniel Hawthorne Elementary School says the school's mission is for every child to realize his or her full potential and become a responsible and productive citizen, and a lifelong learner. However, the future of Nathaniel Hawthorne Elementary looks pretty bleak. In May of 2010, the Board of Education voted to close Nathaniel Hawthorne prior to the 2011-2012 school year.
