Located in St. Louis, Missouri History Museum is operated by the Missouri Historical Society and was founded in 1866. The museum s collections include more than 125,000 artifacts in a variety of formats that document the everyday life of the inhabitants of the St. Louis region. Its collection also includes various art collections, including portraits of significant figures in the history of St. Louis and Missouri, landscapes, drawings and miniatures. The museum has more than 24,000 archaeological and ethnographic artifacts documenting prehistoric Mississippian mound builders and historic woodlands. Additionally, the museum s gift shop offers a variety regional history materials, biographies, genealogy and local architectural books, jewelry, posters, T-shirts, videotapes, cassettes, CDs, educational kits, toys, and games and puzzles. The Missouri Historical Society offers programs and outreach services, including traveling exhibitions, tours, theatrical and musical presentations, family festivals, special events, workshops and lectures.
