Headquartered in Jefferson City, Mo., the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives was established in 1937 as a statewide service organization for Missouri s more than 47 electric cooperatives. The nonprofit, cooperative companies provide electricity to individual homes, farms and businesses, serving more than 40,000 members. The Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives represents the interests and concerns of its members at the state s capital and participates in legislative activities. It also provides services to member-owned and nonprofit electric providers, including job training to electric co-op employees and assisting in marketing efforts. The association publishes Rural Missouri, a monthly statewide newsletter for the local community and co-op members.
