Founded in 1874, the Kansas City Missouri Police Department is comprised of several divisions, including administrative, patrols, executive, investigations and the chief s office. The patrol division consists of central, east, metro, north, south and shoal creek patrols. The department provides law enforcement to the city of Kansas City, Mo., and is a division of the city s government. The department s primary responsibilities include providing enforcement of laws that relate to crimes against persons and property, as well as initiating investigations into such crimes. It also enforces codes and ordinances pertaining to traffic and parking. In addition, the department participates in programs that are geared toward community awareness and crime prevention. The police department maintains records and compiles reports regarding emergency calls, types of reported crimes and offender registrations. It also files reports on behalf of residents pertaining to crimes and traffic accidents.
