History
Farmers Apothecary was founded in 2008 as I sought out a way to combat dry and sensitive skin issues I had been dealing with my whole life. I struggled with commercial products - nothing I tried to seemed to help me, and I also had concerns about some commercial product ingredients. I stumbled onto the age-old art of handmade soap, and fell head over heels in love with the whole process. I hand-stirred my very first batch of soap for over 3 hours, and was so excited when it turned out well. What makes my business unique stems from my background in graphic design and the fine arts. I view each bar of soap as a tiny, useful work of art. Each batch is a chance to try a new color scheme or a new, interesting combination of ingredients. Each new product or package is the potential to create something that not only smells and feels great, but something that also appeals to my customers' other senses as well. My products are a creative outlet for me, part of my vision.
Specialties
Farmers Apothecary is a woman-owned and operated soap, bath treat, and home fragrance business located in rural northern Missouri. I create fine, hand crafted products from scratch, such as artisan lye soap, lotions, sugar body scrubs, bath fizzies, candles, tart melts, salves, and lip care products. I strive to use ingredients that are good for my customers and their bodies - plant based oils, herbs, and other botanicals make up the majority of my ingredients. I hope to offer the public a quality alternative to commercial, mass produced bath and body care.
