Kansas City Power & Light is a full-service energy provider that serves residential and commercial customers in Missouri and Kansas. KCP&L services nearly 500,000 customers in 24 Missouri and Northwest Kansas counties and its territory spans more than 4,500 square miles. The company has approximately 1,700 miles of transmission lines, more than 10,000 miles of overhead distribution lines and approximately 3,400 miles of underground distribution lines. The company was founded in 1892 and has corporate headquarters in Kansas City, Mo. It operates eight stations with 25 generating units that provide power to its customers and sell energy to the wholesale market. KCP&L is a wholly owned subsidiary of Great Plains Energy, which trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol GXP.
