Community Treatment, also known as COMTREA, is a private, nonprofit organization that provides treatment for depression, alcohol addiction, drug abuse, mental illness, child abuse and domestic violence shelter. For married and premarital couples, COMTREA provides counseling for those who fight or argue futilely, withdraw during arguments and have stopped communicating altogether. It provides services to couples with problems, including in-laws, sex, roles, responsibility, commitment and money, as well as crisis situations, such as infidelity and threat of separation or divorce. Established in 1974, its therapists are trained in divorce mediation. The organization provides alcohol and other drug screening tests for individuals, schools, businesses and for the legal system. Its department of youth services provides prevention, education, training and early intervention services to more than 8,000 persons a year. Community Treatment is located in Festus, Mo.
