Columbia Books began October 1, 1977 and has been continuing along ever since. The books are an eclectic mixture of 65, 000 volumes ranging from new releases to antiquarian volumes 400 years old, emphasising books which are interesting and have some literary merit. We also have a large accumulation of prints, maps, ephemera, interesting older periodicals. Annette Kolling-Buckley is the proprietor of Columbia Books, and came to the book business in much the normal waytotally by accident. Clayton Weaver and Jonathan Pons all work to keep things in order and running smoothly. Fred is the Resident Cat. As we are obsessive-compulsive people, Columbia Books is very much customer-service oriented. We will make every humanly possible effort to get the book to the customer, either ordering it if its in print, or if it is out of print, searching tirelessly until it is found. Columbia Books is a member of the American Booksellers' Association ( ABA ), a trade organization made up of most of the remaining independent booksellers in the country. Their slogan for their Booksense Marketing Program-"An independent bookstore for independent minds" applies to the ambiance of our store and to the personalities of our customers. Annette is a member of ABAA/ILAB, which stands for Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America/International League of Antiquarian Booksellers. ( Just saying all of that is so exhausting that referring to it as ABAA is sufficient ). The Antiquarian Booksellers of America was founded in 1949 to encourage interest in rare books and manuscripts and to maintain the highest standards in the aniquarian booktrade. The privilege of membership in the Association and the display of its logo carries with it the responsibility of maintaining and futhering the objectives of the Association and abiding by its ethical guidelines ( link here to ABAA ).
