Blue Hills Elementary School, located in Independence, Mo., aims to develop students as individual lifelong learners through the use of technology, critical thinking and problem solving strategies, cultural arts and cognitive disciplines. It enrolls more than 500 students in grades kindergarten through five. Its curriculum includes English language, science, foreign language, social studies, mathematics, music, and performing and visual arts. The school provides various sport programs, including volleyball, baseball, basketball, track and field, football and cross country. It also provides art classes, weekly library classes and access to media center, computer-based program in kindergarten and an accelerated reading program. The school additionally offers and transportation services, and is operated by the Fort Osage R-1 School District.
