About Associated Couriers, IncAssociated Couriers was incorporated by Don and Betty Anderson in November of 1976 and began operations in March of 1977. The business operates as a customer dedicated carrier of radioactive medicine with a network of delivery and distribution services throughout the United States. Corporate headquarters are located at 2684 Metro Boulevard, Maryland Heights, Missouri. The current business is the result of Mr. Anderson's employment background and a combination of insightfulness, determination, and life experiences. In the beginning, Mr. Anderson was employed by Davis Home and Auto located in St. Joseph, Missouri. This business was a Firestone distributorship that carried everything from appliances to tires and retreads.. in addition to a lunch counter. He drove a delivery van as a route salesman for the business. It kept him away from home and family two nights a week. After Davis Home and Auto, Mr. Anderson worked for a short period as a route salesman for another business out of Maryville, Missouri. This business did not provide reimbursement for business use of his personal vehicle, which he was required to use since the company did not provide one. He looked for different work and moved his family back to St. Joseph, Missouri.Mr. Anderson's first interest in the delivery business was the result of his eleven-year employment with his next employer, Banker's Dispatch Corporation. He managed regional pickups and deliveries of bank work for processing in Kansas City. He moved to St. Louis for the company in 1967, just two years later. Upon the company's request that he transfer to an out of state location, Mr. Anderson left his job in 1976 and began laying the groundwork for Associated Couriers. He started his business in a leased building with a single box truck and one van.Initially, Associated Couriers was more involved with the delivery of bank work. As business increased, more vehicles were added to the fleet and additional warehouse and office space was needed. The business moved into its current location in 1983, which has allowed the business to grow to its present status. As bank work became more competitive and less profitable, Mr. Anderson saw the increased need for specialized carriers of nuclear medicines to hospitals and pharmacies. The Tupelo, Mississippi region still does a majority of bank work today as a result of the purchase of American Dispatch Corporation in 1987.Over the years, the business has grown and adapted its equipment and operations to meet the specific needs of its nuclear medicine customers. Some of the products delivered for these customers contain radioisotopes and are referred to as radiopharmaceuticals. This branch of medicine uses radiation to provide imaging information about the functioning of a person's specific organs. Given the nature of these products, most are time-sensitive and have a determined "half life." It is because of the characteristics and sensitivity of these types of products that make a specialized carrier like Associated Couriers the perfect choice.
