The Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District, also known as SMPDD, offers a range of economic, political and natural resources development services. Founded in 1967, it is one of the largest planning entities in the United States. The district serves Covington, Forrest, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Lamar, Marion, Pearl River, Perry, Stone and Wayne counties in Mississippi. The Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District maintains a community development and planning division. It also operates business, planning and work force development departments. The district s Area Agency on Aging provides long-term care, legal, transportation and case management solutions. The Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District maintains an online data center.
