Jackson County Sheriff-Process
Jackson County Sheriff's Office serves the people of Jackson County, Miss., by working cooperatively with the public to prevent crime, preserve the peace and enforce the laws. The sheriff's duties generally fall into two categories, law enforcement and administrative. Law enforcement duties are organized to keep the peace within the county by causing all offenders in view to enter into bonds, with sureties, for keeping the peace and for appearing at the next circuit court, and by committing such offenders in case of refusal. The sheriff is also charged with the duty to quell riots, routs, affrays and unlawful assemblages and to prevent lynchings and mob violence. Administrative duties for the sheriff include serving as the county jailor, submitting a budget and keeping a jail docket. Jackson County Sheriff's Office is located in Pascagoula, Miss.
