The mission of the Gulfport Fire Department is to provide emergency response services, code enforcement, public education and ongoing training. The fire department acts as a first responder to structure and vehicle fires, wild fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents and water rescues. Its fire prevention and investigation services include code enforcement, fire cause determination, public education and construction plans review. The department, which as established in 1902, employs approximately 175 personnel who provide 24-hour protection for the residents of Gulfport, Miss. The Gulfport Fire Department consists of 12 fire stations.
