City of Gulfport Public Works maintains and improves streets, street lights, traffic signals, and drainage, water, sewer and sanitation systems in Mississippi. It also oversees a program of major improvement projects, known as capital projects. Additionally, the department is responsible for repair and routine maintenance of city buildings, equipment and vehicles. City of Gulfport Public Works provides engineering assistance to other city departments. The department includes more than 10 divisions and has a staff of over 125 employees. It is additionally responsible for the privatization agreements that help in providing residents with water, sewer and garbage pickup services. City of Gulfport Public Works maintains bridges, landfills, transfer stations and airports.
