Ellisville State School, established in 1920, offers a wide range of educational and extracurricular programs to students. The school is one of the more than five state-funded residential mental retardation facilities in Mississippi, and is under jurisdiction of the State Board of Mental Health. The school provides services to children and adults with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. It operates through various divisions, such as administrative, residential, programating and support services. It features facilities, including lake, parks, playgrounds, and outdoor and indoors recreational areas. The school unit is licensed by the Department of Health and Human Services, and is certification for Medicaid participation. It services more than 500 individuals. In addition, it organizes various programs for more than 600 people, including community-based group homes, supervised apartments, case management, early intervention, and community work programs. The school is located in Ellisville, Mass.
