The Office of Alcoholic Beverage Control, governed by the Mississippi State Tax Commission, manages the issuance of alcoholic beverage licenses for package and on-premise retailers. Founded in 1966, the office annually imports, stores and sells more than 2 million cases of spirits and wines. Its warehouse occupies over 211,000 square feet of space. The Office of Alcoholic Beverage Control also issues licenses for temporary retailers to serve various nonprofit civic and charitable events. The office also responds to a range of liquor law violations. It has destroyed nearly 3,000 illicit whiskey stills. The Office of Alcoholic Beverage Control assists nonprofit organizations to host public awareness campaigns for the prevention of underage drinking.
