History
Over 23 years ago, Joel Wiens, an athlete dissatisfied with uncomfortable sports equipment that seemed to dampen everyone's performance, began to experiment with compression apparel in combination with equipment. The first successful item was the compression short that had a pouch for the athletic cup, providing a better fit without the discomfort of the strap. With the purpose of making athletes more comfortable in performance, he asked some of his family to help him make the idea a reality, his Aunt Virginia, his brother Mark, his mother, and his grandmother all pitched in by sewing and developing his first products. His simple innovation ideas then grew to a successful JOC line of elite gear for many sports including baseball, hockey, football, and lacrosse. WSI quickly outgrew Joel's family basement in Windom, Minnesota, and he moved the business to St. Paul, Minnesota where the business is located today.
Specialties
WSI prides itself on innovation. Since 1990 WSI has been an international leader in performance apparel. Technology keeps changing and so does WSI. Innovative products like our WikMax technology provides hyper Wicking features and fast drying base layers to keep you dry in cold and hot condition. Our WikMax HEATR technology uses a fiber that expands and generates heat as your skins contacts the fabric. It absorbs, stores, and releases heat helping to get the muscles loose and warmed up faster. Sports and physical activities demand products that keep you comfortable and safe. Our commitment to innovation helps us meet both of these objectives. An innovation can be complex or simple, but its only useful if available to others.
