The city of Rochester Public Works department is responsible for planning, programming, design, construction and maintenance of public works facilities in Rochester, Minn. This includes street infrastructure, street lighting, traffic control, sanitary and storm water, watermain and waste water treatment facilities, as well as on-street and off-street parking and coordination of mass transit modes. Rochester is served by an extensive regular fixed-route bus system. All bus routes start and end in the downtown with an average ride time of 15 minutes. Service is provided to most employment centers, shopping destinations, recreational areas and educational institutions. Door-to-door service is also provided for individuals who due to a disability are not able to use regular city bus service. The Rochester Public Works department is also responsible for the daily activities at the water reclamation plant. Currently, the plant is undergoing extensive expansion to satisfy the demands for the city of Rochester citizens.
