History
Plantenberg's of Richmond began in 1898 as the Plantenberg Meat Market founded by John Plantenberg. In 1930, John's sons Eddie and Norb took over the meat market and added groceries, making a general store, still specializing in custom meats. As years went by Eddie's son, Eddie Jr. and Norb's son Mike were brought into the business. They became part owners in 1964 and co-owners in 1971. In 1980 they opened their new store at their present location. Mike's son Tucker and his wife Patti got involved with the store in the late 1980's and in the late 1990's took over the store from Mike and Eddie Jr. Today Tucker manages the meat operations and Patti assists with the grocery department and bookkeeping.
