The Minnesota Department of Human Services is one of the largest state agencies and provides welfare services to the citizens of Minnesota. The department works with counties and tribes to help low-income families achieve self-sufficiency through various programs, such as the Minnesota Family Investment Program and the Diversionary Work Program. It also offers child support enforcement, child care assistance, food support, refugee cash assistance and employment services. The Minnesota Department of Human Services provides an array of programs for people with mental illness, developmental disabilities and chemical dependency. The department licenses more than 25,000 service providers, including group homes and treatment programs. It is located in St. Paul, Minn.
