Located in St. Paul, Minn., the Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor is a nonpartisan audit and evaluation office that works under the legislative branch of Minnesota state government. The office is under the direction of the Legislative Auditor, who is appointed by the Legislative Audit Commission. The Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor works to provide audit reports to legislature, agencies and the public. It focuses on state agencies and programs and audits various metropolitan agencies, as well as reviews locally administered programs. The office was established in 1973 with the recommendation of a private sector study group called the Loaned Executive Action Program. The Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor operates a program evaluation division that handles the oversight of workers compensation insurance claims and supports a personal care assistance program.
