The Metropolitan Airports Commission owns and operates Minneapolis - St. Paul International Airport and six reliever airports throughout the Twin Cities area. The MAC's mission serves the community by ensuring the safety of airport users and provides efficient services and facilities for air travelers. MAC has been a fundamental contributor in making its region a strong force in the global economy. The Metropolitan Airports Commission was created by state law in 1943. The commission was designed to provide for coordinated aviation services throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area. A board of commissioners appointed by Minnesota's governor and the mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul sets and interprets the commission's policies. Those policies are implemented by the commission's executive director and staff.
