The Minnesota Department of Commerce is responsible for ensuring equitable commercial and financial transactions and reliable utility services. The department regulates and licenses business activity in more than 20 industries, including insurance, real estate, debt collection, financial services, mortgage origination, securities, franchising and telecommunication. In addition, the department investigates and resolves consumer complaints, advocates the public s interest before the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and administers a variety of state programs. It operates Minnesota s Unclaimed Property Program and administers Minnesota Relay, which provides deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech-impaired citizens with access to telecommunications services. The Minnesota Department of Commerce is located in St. Paul, Minn.
