The Family Freedom Center is a non-profit organization based in Duluth, MN, dedicated to empowering the Black community by reconstructing cultural and socio-economic narratives and embracing Black identity. Through alternative education and bridging the gap between community and families, the center aims to foster positive change in systemic landscapes that directly impact the Black community while being inclusive to the larger Duluth community.
Founded in 2015 as Family Freedom Schools and later awarded 501(c)(3) status in 2018, the organization continues to build cultural resilience and deliver relevant programs that address structural racism and internalized oppression affecting Black families in Duluth. Under the guidance of Executive Director Jacob Aaron Bell, the Family Freedom Center promotes Black excellence and strives to surpass the dreams of its elders by facilitating culturally specific and inclusive spaces for engagement, empowerment, and education.
