Deep Portage Conservation Reserve, established in 1973, is a nonprofit environmental conservation education and outdoor recreation center. It spreads on an area of more than 6,000 acres of glacial hills, lakes, rivers and bogs. The reserve is operated by the Deep Portage Conservation Foundation, which is a nonprofit corporation. Deep Portage Conservation Reserve includes an over 50,000 square-foot Resources Heritage Center along with a climbing wall, library, theater, pantry, classrooms and overnight accommodations for up to 175 people. It also houses a museum, laboratory, bookstore and cross-country ski trails. The reserve offers a variety of summer camp activities, such as fishing, hunting, aquatics, mountain biking and gun dog training. Additionally, Deep Portage Conservation Reserve organizes various interpretive programs, wildflower garden displays and land use demonstration sessions. It hosts family educational adventures, weekend retreats and teacher workshops. The reserve is located in Hackensack, Minn.
