CAPI, also known as Centre for Asians and Pacific Islanders, was established in 1982 as a food store to serve Southeast Asian food preferences. The organization is a multiservice mutual assistance association that annually assists more than 3,500 refugees throughout the world to become self-sufficient. It is governed by a diverse 11-member board of directors. The organization s employment and training division provides refugee employment program, English language learning, financial literacy program, transportation services, soft skills training, elder caregiver program, and refugee settlement, and health education and access services. The organization is a member of National Alliance of Vietnamese American Service Agencies, Minnesota Directors Forum, and the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits. CAPI is located in Minneapolis. Its staff of diverse employees can collectively speak more than 10 languages.
